The audience leans forward in anticipation as the curtain rises near Wortham Oaks homes. Stories spring to life at The Magik Theatre. For over two decades this professional theater company has chosen contemporary and classic children’s literary works and brought them to the stage. Found in historic Hemisfair Park, the Magik Theatre is placed conveniently close to Chesmar Homes and is dedicated to supporting the arts.
Currently in production is Ken Ludwig’s Twas The Night Before Christmas. In this tale, an impish mouse partners with a young girl. Together they must prevent a mischievous elf from selling the naughty and nice list. Running through December 30th, this is sure to become a favorite holiday story.
Special showings of A Charlie Brown Christmas will be held at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre located at 226 N. St. Mary’s Street in San Antonio. Don’t miss this popular performance taking place December 16th through the 23rd.

Youngsters living in Wortham Oaks homes can participate in a Winter Break Mini-Camp December 27 to 29th at the Magik’s Performing Art Center. With a focus on fun, drama classes and activities are highlighted. Spots quickly fill so make a reservation soon.
An incredible line up of shows are already scheduled for the 2017 season. Featured literature includes Susan Howell’s The Three Javelinas and Alice McLerran’s Roxaboxen. The Three Javelinas is an interpretation of the beloved “Three Little Pigs” but with a southwestern twist. Eight children build an imaginary wonderland out of wooden boxes, cactus, and stones in Roxaboxen. Both shows are fun filled and sure to cause lots of laughter and smiles.
